Injured Badgers LB Cichy to enter draft

MADISON, Wis. (AP) Wisconsin linebacker Jack Cichy has decided to enter the NFL draft, foregoing a chance to ask the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility because of a right knee injury.

Cichy announced his decision in a story posted Tuesday on The Players Tribune website. He was announced as one of the team's departing seniors before the sixth-ranked Badgers' regular-season home finale on Nov. 18 against Michigan.

Arguably Wisconsin's best player, Cichy was on preseason watch lists for postseason awards when he got hurt during a special teams drill in training camp. He was set to anchor a deep linebacker corps on one of the country's top defenses.

Wyoming QB Allen aiming to play in bowl

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen says his injured throwing shoulder is better than 90 percent recovered, but it's still too early to say whether he will be able to play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Dec. 22.

Allen has been mentioned among the top quarterback prospects in next year's NFL draft.

Iowa St. OK if QB Park wants to transfer

AMES, Iowa (AP) Iowa State coach Matt Campbell said he will support quarterback Jacob Park if he intends to transfer to another school.

Campbell released a statement Monday night after the Des Moines Register quoted Park as saying he asked for a release from his scholarship.

SMU hires former Cal coach Dykes

DALLAS (AP) Sonny Dykes didn't even have to finish the story of his favorite SMU memory to stir some in the crowd who showed up to greet the Mustangs' new coach.

All he had to say was 1982, Lubbock and Texas Tech - and never mind that the thrilling SMU win on a last-second kickoff return was at the expense of the school that would later become the longtime coaching home of Dykes' late dad, Spike Dykes, and his alma mater.

Currie, Schiano had agreed on $27M deal

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Former Tennessee athletic director John Currie and Greg Schiano signed a memorandum of understanding to make the Ohio State defensive coordinator the new Volunteers football coach before the deal fell apart amid a public backlash.

The memorandum of understanding, obtained through a public records request, states Schiano would have received a six-year, $27 million contract. Tennessee officials say they believe the document isn't legally binding because it was never signed by the school's chief financial officer.

Mayfield headlines AP All-America team

No. 2 Oklahoma will bring three All-Americans to the College Football Playoff.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield, offensive tackle Orlando Brown and tight end Mark Andrews of Oklahoma were selected to the Associated Press All-America team, giving the Sooners more players on the first team than any school. The All-America team, which dates to 1925 and was selected this season by a panel of 17 Top 25 voters, was released Monday.

Ole Miss QB Patterson joins Michigan

Mississippi quarterback Shea Patterson says he will transfer to Michigan, where coach Jim Harbaugh has gone through three starting QBs this season.

Patterson made his commitment in a tweet on Monday after visiting the Ann Arbor, Michigan, campus last weekend . Patterson is recovering from a right knee injury that cost him the final month of last season, but he should be ready to compete in 2018.

Florida DT Bryan leaving to enter draft

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) Florida defensive tackle Taven Bryan has decided to forgo his senior year and enter the NFL draft.

Bryan announced his decision Monday on Twitter, saying coach Dan Mullen's return to Gainesville "made this decision very difficult because I have the highest regard for him." Bryan ultimately, though, chose to move on.

Injured Louisville RB Smith to transfer

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) Louisville senior running back Jeremy Smith plans to transfer after sustaining a season-ending foot injury in September.

Cardinals spokesman Rocco Gasparro said Monday night in a text message that coach Bobby Petrino granted Smith's request for a release to transfer. Louisville's top returning rusher entering this season played one game and was injured in practice two days before the team faced defending national champion Clemson.

TCU names Donati new athletic director

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) Jeremiah Donati was named TCU's athletic director just two days after his former boss, Chris Del Conte, took the same job with the Texas Longhorns.

As Donati was introduced on Monday, he saved Del Conte for last on the list of people he thanked, and he left no doubt about his respect for his predecessor.
