8/18/2017 Kevin Pillar, Tor, CF
Kevin Pillar went 2 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI Friday as the Toronto Blue Jays lost to the Chicago Cubs 7-4. Pillar scored once. He ended the game with a .249 batting average.

Analysis: Pillar has scored in seven straight road games, a span in which he's batting .346. He's batting .196 with two runs in 17 home games since the All-Star break. The Blue Jays opened a six-game trip Friday.
8/18/2017 Ryan Goins, Tor, 2B
Ryan Goins went 1 for 4 with two RBIs Friday as the Toronto Blue Jays lost to the Chicago Cubs 7-4. He ended the game with a .216 batting average.

Analysis: Goins' two-run single was just his third hit in 22 at-bats over his last seven games.
8/18/2017 Cameron Maybin, LAA, CF
Maybin is not in the Angels' lineup for a second straight game Friday because of a sore right knee.

Analysis: He's less than two weeks removed from a DL stint for a sprain to the same knee, so it seems possible he is not fully recovered. Considering his biggest fantasy asset is steals, you should certainly keep Maybin on the bench and can consider letting him go altogether. The most recent of his 25 steals came on July 5.

8/18/2017 Kolten Wong, StL, 2B
Wong is out of the lineup Friday because of a hip injury.

Analysis: The playoff-hopeful Cardinals hope this doesn't lead to an extended absence because Wong has been red-hot, batting .436 with 11 RBIs in his last 11 games.
8/18/2017 Mallex Smith, TB, CF
Smith has been optioned to Triple-A Durham.

Analysis: Though Smith tops the Rays with 16 steals and his .279 average is among the team's best, Smith became expendable with Kevin Kiermaier coming off the disabled list. Expect Smith to return to the Rays as a September call-up.
8/18/2017 Anibal Sanchez, Det, P
Sanchez has been put on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring.

Analysis: Sanchez exited after just 47 pitches Wednesday due to a tight hamstring. It seems like he could use some time away from the mound anyway, having posted an 8.37 ERA in seven starts since the All-Star break.
8/18/2017 José Ramírez, Cle, 3B
Ramirez (forearm) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Royals.

Analysis: X-rays on Ramirez were negative after he was struck by a pitch in the first game of a doubleheader Thursday, but he didn't play Game 2 and now will miss a second in a row. Indians fans hope this is just a precaution for the All-Star who leads the team in batting average and tops the AL in extra-base hits.
8/18/2017 Adam Wainwright, StL, P
The Cardinals have placed Wainwright on the disabled list for a right elbow impingement.

Analysis: Wainwright had complained of arm trouble recently and his velocity had been down. He lasted just a combined 11 innings in three starts since a DL stint for a stiff back. Wainwright's body appears to be failing him as he approaches his 36th birthday on Aug. 30.
8/18/2017 Jarrod Dyson, Sea, CF
Dyson is not in the Mariners' lineup Friday because of groin tightness.

Analysis: Dyson's biggest fantasy value comes from his legs - he has 28 steals - so he will not be a good play unless fully healthy.
8/18/2017 Avisaíl García, CWS, RF
Garcia is not in the lineup for a second straight game Friday due to a sore left wrist.

Analysis: Injury problems have plagued Garcia in the second half of the season after such a promising first half. He's hit .216 with two homers and six RBIs in his last 26 games.
8/18/2017 Scott Feldman, Cin, P
Feldman has been placed back on the disabled list for right knee inflammation.

Analysis: This is the same problem that recently resulted in a four-week absence, and clearly the problem never healed properly because he was terrible in two starts after coming off the DL. He gave up nine runs and 14 hits in a combined 7 2/3 innings, and he served up five homers to the Cubs on Thursday. It's possible he will be shut down for the season.
8/18/2017 Tyler Skaggs, LAA, P
Skaggs has been placed on the bereavement list.

Analysis: He's scheduled to start Monday against Texas and should return in time to take the hill.
8/18/2017 Mitch Garver, Min, C
The Twins have recalled Garver to make his major league debut.

Analysis: Garver ranks second in the International League with a .928 on-base-plus-slugging percentage and is batting .291 with 29 doubles, 17 home runs and 45 RBIs in 88 games.
8/18/2017 Danny Santana, Atl, CF
Santana has been placed on the disabled list with a left quad strain.

Analysis: Santana had been starting in left field recently in place of the slumping Matt Adams, but he's gone just 2 for 17 with one RBI in his last five games.
